Contextualization - Labeling Network Connections

Labeling Network Connections

One of PacketViper OTR's key attributes is the ability to provide context to network communications at wire speed.  Context is critical to making fast and accurate decisions regarding network traffic conditions.  Context is utilized to construct real-time dashboards to identify normal, suspicious, or malicious activity in the environment.  Many different forms of Context are provided within PacketViper OTR.  Basic context such as hostname, and labeling of network interfaces is vital.

Once the basic labeling has been completed you will find the hostname in the upper right-hand corner, and the network interface names list within widgets. As well you will be able to generate advanced analytics requests based on these names. It is important that this step is completed before we begin.

Labeling Network Interfaces on each device;

  1. Go to Setup -> Networking.

  2. You will see a list of interfaces.

  3. Click on the ETH0 label and a pop-up will appear.

  4. Enter a short name.

  5. Repeat these steps for each interface.
